But I feel that this game actually had a really good handle on it by making the routes for not having to kill people so interesting. In regards to traversing the world: I really feel hesitant about games that incorporate not having to kill everyone by sneaking past them or knocking them unconscious because when I take the route of less resistance, it just isn’t that fun for me. The interesting open-world that was kind of linear, with the tensions of humans vs other humans who have been given augmentations (mechanical upgrades/replacements to normal human things like eyesight) that make them superior to other fellow human beings totally strung me in. Eventually, it came to the top of my list of games that I own that I never played (oh, it’s gotten much worse), so I played it.

On the PS3, I got Deus Ex: Human Revolution for free from PS+ (Sony: 1, Microsoft: -0), and I downloaded it onto my PS3, but I didn’t try it for a long time. Now, here’s my top 10 list of my most anticipated games of 2016 (I hope I have enough time this year to play them all): 10) Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

I’m also really excited to see the PS4 actually getting some exclusive games! So while there are actually a couple open-world games that have me interested this 2016, I’m really excited for some good ol’ linear games. I love to play a tightly made game that while linear, it gives me an awesome experience. I don’t want a game that has a vast world, but that world isn’t really fun to explore. Open-world games are continually pushing the making of bigger worlds, but I don’t really care about that. Having said that, I have to say something about open-world games. I’m sure open-world games will be pushing the open-world genre by making bigger worlds that are, hopefully, more detailed. Games are going to continue to push the bars: games will be pushing the Xbox One and PS4 to their true potential and games will look better as a result.

That means there’s another year of games getting more advanced.

Series producer Eiji Aonuma has said he wants to get the new game back to its roots as a dangerous world players can get lost in, and last year he said the game was being delayed due to "new possibilities" the development team had uncovered.Hey everyone! Happy new years! Another year goes by and another one comes along. Nintendo's willingness to mix up the traditional Zelda formula has increased quite a bit since the last home console game in 2011, with the company handing the franchise over to Koei Tecmo for a bizarre strategy battle game in 2014 and even introducing a female version of the legendary hero last year, named 'Linkle'. Regardless of where it lives, the little insight we have into the new Zelda shows it to feature a beautiful and huge open world, plenty of the series' trademark puzzle-solving items, exploration on horseback and a version of series protagonist Link that breaks a little with tradition - sporting unfamiliar garb and appearing even more androgynous than usual. With Nintendo set to announce an entirely new console this year, some have become concerned this Zelda game is no longer coming to the struggling Wii U system as promised, but will leapfrog it entirely to launch alongside the new hardware. This year's game, which is yet to receive an official name, was originally supposed to release in late 2015. New home console Zelda games are always a big event, coming as they do every five years or so.

Of course no discussion of 2016 gaming would be complete without touching on virtual reality, and - while nothing has yet been confirmed - No Man's Sky is widely rumoured to be on its way to Sony's PlayStation VR headset when it releases this year. While showings of the various gameplay options (fighting space pirates, mining planets, being a non-violent space zoologist, racing all other players to the centre of the universe) have impressed, it remains to be seen how different the multitude of creatures, planets, spacecrafts and scenarios will actually be. Instead they created the mathematical algorithms that in turn generate a near-infinite number of stars and planets. While many games seek to manufacture a feeling of frontierism - be it in space, on the high seas or in the wild west - this game promises the player will literally find things that nobody has ever found before.Īll this is made possible because the development team did not strictly craft everything in the game. It took a long time for anyone to actually process the concept of No Man's Sky: a shared, online game world as big as an actual galaxy, with quadrillions of unique planets to discover and explore.
